From 1975 to 1987 I was mechanic and tuner for Miles Baldwin, Canada's top Formula One and Formula Two Motorcycle road racer. We were what you call 'privateers'. That is, we had no factory or corporate sponsorship. Miles was Canadian Champion, and in the American Association of Motorcycle road racers, he was their Formula One and Two Champion.

Sculptures (Motorcycle Racing)

We also raced the American Motorcycle Association series which is the most prestigious series in North America. With the help of our good friend genius engineers, Kevin Cameron and Ron Burns, we finished second to the powerful and rich Honda Factory team in the Formula One series. According to the motorcycle magazines, that is like somebody at the corner garage building a car and beating the Ferrari team.

Since the show called 'The Art of the Motorcycle' at the Guggenheim Museum a few years ago I thought I would put the bikes I prepared up as my sculptures. So here they are. I tasted lots of champagne in the winner's circle with Miles over the 11 years I was his mechanic. It was lots of work and lots of fun.
