2010 B8 A4 Clutch Question
This is a little hard to explain but hopefully some of you knowledgeable folks will know what I am talking about and tell me I am just being paranoid...
Basically, when letting go of the clutch, instead of it "traveling back" at a constant speed, the first part of it feels like it was on some kind of "hydraulic" movement (ie slow but smooth). Then about mid way through, it resumes what I consider as normal travel. So if you imagine yourself letting go of the clutch quickly, its movement will go slow at first and then mid way through, will quickly snap back to the non-depressed position.
I was in the showroom a couple of days ago and tested the clutch on another A4 (S Line) and did not notice any of the "hydraulic" clutch behavior. The car itself, is shifting fine.
For all of you who drive a manual B8, do you feel the same? do you think it is abnormal and should be checked out? Last thing I want to find out is this causes premature clutch wear and/or other problems.
Thanks and hopefully my description makes sense to you.

It is not normal (of course).
I remember a similar behaviour from another car I once had.
(Not sure but it might have been just before it needed replacement of a leaking 'clutch hydraulic cylinder', or something like that.)
Anyway, I would have it fixed because it is rather annoying.

clutch pedal return
After reading your post I took my 2009 A4 MT for a drive and I specifically checked for a bimodal pattern of the return of clutch pedal. After I depress the clutch it rides up swiftly without pause or change in the return speed. I would call your dealer. You do not want to have this develop into a serious problem.

My 2009 does this after it's been sitting outside in cold temps (<10F) all day. It seems to go away after a few minutes of driving though. In warmer temps it's perfect.

Thanks. Pretty discerning given the car is 2 months old. And it is definitely not as a result of low temperature. I will call the dealer and have it looked at. I will report back on any finding.

Hey Raymond...had a similar issue with my S5. Very bad experience. Transmission taken out twice, clutch assembly replaced twice and slave & master cylinders replaced as well as the hydraulic lines being replaced.
Even though the S5 is an eight cylinder, I think it's the new B8 chassis design. In order for Audi to move the engine further back in the chassis a new chassis architecture was designed.
After all those repairs, the problem persisted. Was given a 'trade assist' by Audi to get into a 2010 S4. No issues with the S4 after 3 months.
But with your clutch issues, I am concerned to say the least with my S4. Keep us informed of your repairs. Curious......
