OWEN SOUND SELECTS SR. MENS FASTBALL

The Owen Sound Selects are kicking off the 1998 season with what looks to be a very strong team. Maybe one of the strongest they have ever had. With a mixture of youth and experience Owen Sound looks to be a contender at all of the 1998 events. This is how they break it down.

-----Coach-----
- Tom White 5th Season as Owen Sounds field boss Manager
- Jeff Ritz has put together another impressive Owen Sound Squad

-----Pitching-----
Frank Cox - has been the top pitcher in the ISC Travel League twice and All-Star pitcher twice at the Canadian Championships in his four years with OS.

Jamie Simpson - Jamie has a lot of experience for a young thrower and will surprise quite a few people now that he has a solid team behind him.

-----Catching------
Darryl Sprung - a lot of experience behind the dish with Darryl, this will help the young pitching staff

Tim Cox - Team captain and leader in many ways. Tim is a smart catcher and can call a game with the best of them.

-----Infield------
Dave Hoffman - National team first basemen with cat like reflexes. Always a longball threat.

Doug Levy - this big guy is a natural hitter putting together power and average like so few others can.

Ken Kivell - National team member in 1996. Ken provides the speed and defense the Selects need up the middle.

Ryan Thompson- A clutch hitter that always seems to find himself nestled down late in the Selects order. Look for Ryan to come through for O.S. in the close games.

Jody Eidt - One of the best Juniors to come into the senior ranks in years. Jody will provide the Selects with sure handed defense and provides all the depth needed up the middle.

Ron White - Ron is back in an Owen Sound uniform after stints with Napanee Express, Toronto Gators, and Tampa Smokers. Ron will nicely fill the large hole left by Bob Rath 2 years ago.

------Outfield-----
Terry Challis - Overshadowed by many superstars in the Toronto Gator line-up, Terry was at times their brightest star. Terry is a true competitor and a winner that will provide the young Selects Team with some leadership.

Greg Miller - a great lead-off man that always finds his way onto the bases. Greg worked his way into the lead-off spot last year and will most likely hold that spot for the season.

Dale Levy- This kid can throw a ball. The strongest arm in fastpitch is not an overstatement. Dale has also developed into a strong hitter over the past few seasons with Midland MI.

Bill Ottewell - Bill was a utility player for Owen Sound last season that worked his way into the line-up by the end of the year. If Bill keeps playing the way he has been, it will be hard to keep him off the field .

Mike Taylor - Mike is a junior age player that has been playing for Owen Sound for two seasons now. A strong arm, powerful swing and the ability to play just about anywhere will help Mike find a spot in the Selects order for years to come.
