Mackenzie Robinson Added to Women's Basketball

The Algoma University Thunderbirds Varsity Athletics Program is pleased to announce that Mackenzie Robinson has joined the Algoma Thunderbirds women's basketball team for the 2015-16 season, their third year of play in the OUA and CIS.

"We are very pleased to be adding Mackenzie to our team for the 2015-16 season. She helps bring some needed size at the wing and her ability to shoot the ball will help stretch out defenses," said Head Coach Ryan Vetrie. "Her background in playing lacrosse is great as we don't have to worry about her toughness coming in. Next year we look to become a more competitive program and Mackenzie is expected to be one of the players coming in to help us move in the right direction."

Robinson, a 5'10" and 142 pound shooting guard from Orillia, Ontario, has been playing basketball for nine years. Robinson is the third recruit to join the Algoma Thunderbirds from Twin Lakes Secondary School. The brother duo of Sean and Jacob Clendinning, who signed to play for the Thunderbirds in 2013 and 2014, are also former Twin Lakes Thunderbirds. With her high school squad, Robinson earned the title of Twin Lakes Senior Girls' 2013-14 MVP and the Georgian College Tournament MVP. She also plays lacrosse and volleyball.

Robinson will be studying in Algoma U's Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (honours) program. She is most looking forward to meeting new people, starting a new chapter in her life in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and playing CIS-level ball. "I chose Algoma because of the small environment and the opportunity to play basketball at a higher level," said Robinson.

"Coming from Orillia she expressed her interest in a smaller university experience and I believe Algoma U fits perfectly for what she is looking for," added Vetrie.
