What is “The Recents”?

The Recents is a research service and tool created by a local Alberta history enthusiast, Who has created of a catalogue of names, associated with news papers to expedite the research process. This saves having to meticulously go through every paper and documenting names, dates, and page numbers every time you research a different person. This catalogue is stored as a database, and is a living catalogue of a significant portion of Alberta’s history.

The Recents database is private property and the sole intellectual property. Though all the information that is the original source, which includes the newspapers: The Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, … And is in the public domain, no complete catalogue of names exists. Partial catalogs may exist at libraries, archives or universities; however, no complete public sponsored catalogue exists. We have spent thousands of hours creating this database.

Why Charge a Research Fee?

The creation of this index has taken thousands of hours and involved costs of transport and equipment to compiling vast amounts of information, we charges a nominal research fee to recover some of our time and expenses.

The recents is a research tool that can speed up your genealogical and historical research. Providing an ancestors name, Mr. E.J. Howard uses his database to find articles in papers. These papers are publicly available, however, the time required to find them as an individual would be equivalent to hundreds of hours of time, let alone expense such as travel, accommodations and the value of your time.

Can I get this service from someone else?

The Recents is a unique database, and it is the only one of its kind, and it is continually being updated and expanded. All researchers have the same access to publicly available information, however, with “The Recents”, the research has already been done.
