stew
well what you se before you was built for 943.78 $ and it has working ac i started with a real nice 97 chev frame i had kicking around. and put my 98 350 motor and cab on hooked up to a 4l60e witch had a broke frame. the fender flairs scoops an tranny came from my 96 that came with the 98 for parts the gas tank now sits up by the back of the cab with a plywood casing over it to just clean it up a bit. on back i had to run all new break lines and shocks sadly out ofall three trucks i did not have a box that would pass so i made my own that would cheaply the tires are 36.9.19 X on toyo rims one had a bit of scalop so guy didnt want them anymore.... perfact for me the bumpers im almost finished welding and the rocker panals that are not there are soon to be 2.4 tubing is all thats left to drive it some time soon (money) i would like a set of keys for the front the extra leaf in the back makes her look like a rat rod we called her franking because she is most junk yard parts and because i painted it lime green with a paint roller... yes apaint roller

TRUXterra
Nice looking rig! Not to sh!t on your parade; but as a heads up, you will not pass safety with the tank strapped to the bed. In order to pass, you need to have a double walled tank securely mounted on the frame, or a single walled tank mounted within the frame. In a head on, your tank is hitting the cab! TRUXterra
^^ exactly, or move it back to the original frame mount location! I had a friend in the 90's who mounted a Toyota tank on a deck built from flat plate on the back of his 1/4 ton. After wheelin a short distance, the brackets gave way and he lost the tank to the side of the trail. Minimal loss of fuel, but it really caused concern. stew
there are a few things on the ol girl that arent up to par. but i have over a year to worry about that and a replacment fuel cell is the plan for next inspection, i want nothing under the truck but break lines and this weekend was the plan to put the tank sideway behind the cab and inclose it with a sheet of plywood to make it look a little better and it leves me with a little dect room to tie supplies onto as well . stew
the tank can not go back into the original placment. i took out the half soggy crossmembers and replaced there with X style ones i made out of c channel. so fuel cell/talk on back is all i got right now. before i had the money for the back deck the talk was sitting in the back seat to move it around the yard . You could have your truck towed and a new reject sticker if a Vehicle Compliance officer pulls you over, or you happen upon a roadside check. Be careful. RobertMcC
Would what the 60's chev C10 with the fuel tank behind the rear seat be acceptable?
TRUXterra
Would what the 60's chev C10 with the fuel tank behind the rear seat be acceptable? Not anymore. If it's OEM then yes, it will pass on an antique/classic vehicle, but moving the tank into the passenger compartment is no longer acceptable. The only real option in this case is a cell. And Eastcoastcam is correct, but also any officer can deem a vehicle to not be road worthy and pull it on the spot. They had a check point about a month ago in the area and 7 vehicles were pulled from the road due to condition. I do know that at least 2 of them had MVI's that were current. This is first hand knowledge as I know the owner of the local tow company. On of them was pulled for bald tires (literally belts showing) and the other was for visible holes into the passenger's compartment. The fine was outrageous and so was the tow & impound (storage) fee!
sar4x4
My brother's '75 Dodge Power Wagon has the fuel tank in the cab as well. It was OEM at the time. (The body construction similarities between '70' and '80s Dodges and Chevs is amazing!)

TRUXterra
I thought you wern't allowed wooden boxes anymore... Depends on the construction. All wood with screws/bolts...NO, steel frame with wooden inserts/planks...YES. There was a situation on a NS highway where the side of a wooden box flew off a vehicle and caused an accident. All wood construction was deemed "un-roadworthy" at that time. It was sometime in the late 90's early 00's...I can't recall for sure. My uncle had a wooden box for years and failed inspection around that time for that change.
stew
If some one took a good enough look at er im sure she would get a rejection sticker but worst comes to worst she goes back to the field where she was sitting before. She is by no means a daily driver lol. I figured might as well run her while shes inspected way easier than truck and trailer for me at the present sience i moved in hear for school and the one weeeee little parking spot i have is ot oing to fit the 4 door long box or my foot goose neck lol
