Orthodox CBT

Canada's most comprehensive continuing education training in orthodox (i.e., conventional) CBT is sponsored by the University of Toronto's Department of Psychiatry and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). The University of Toronto offers Canada's oldest CBT Certificate Program, directed by Dr. Greg Dubord.

Certification requires the successful completion of three courses, and passing grades on a written examination and a psychotherapy tape evaluation.

Note:  These courses are designed for full-time psychotherapists. Family physicians are advised to enroll in medical CBT courses, which are designed around their practice realities.

Level One

CBT Summer Training Institute

Beyond the Basics

Founded by Zindel Segal, PhD and currently led by Lance Hawley, PhD and Judith Laposa, PhD, the CBT Institute, Level One provides practitioners with an introduction to the basics of orthodox CBT. This year's L1 (May 28-30, 2015) is SOLD OUT.  The next L1 will be held June 23-25, 2016. Click here for details and to register.

Level Two

Intermediate CBT Institute

How to Become a Highly-Rated Cognitive Behavior Therapist

Founded by Greg Dubord, MD a decade ago, the award-winning ICBTI provides practitioners with intermediate-level skills in orthodox CBT. Click here for a summary of recent course feedback. This year's L2 commences November 5, 2015. Click here for details and to register.

Level Three

Advanced CBT Institute

The Wisdom of the Seasoned Therapist

Founded by Greg Dubord, MD in 1999, the ACBTI provides practitioners with advanced skills training in orthodox cognitive behavior therapy. ACBTI topics include treatment resistance, working with meta-cognition, transference issues, emotion-focused interventions, and Eastern psychology integration (e.g., mindfulness practice).

Research on the real-world effectiveness of the ACBTI was published in the October 2004 issue of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry (Vol 49, No 10). Reassuringly, ACBTI participants do indeed become better therapists, according to independent standardized measures. But more importantly, the patients of ACBTI trainees get better faster.

This year's ACBTI (April 23-25, 2015) is SOLD OUT. The next ACBTI will be held May 26-28, 2016. Applicants must have completed both L1 and L2. For further information and to register, please click here.
