Bio
Camilla (Camie) was born in Kingston,
Ontario in 1954, and while growing up lived in many cities across
Canada, in England, and in Germany.
Art was always a favorite subject during her schooling. She studied
theatre arts and for a few years worked in theatre and sewed costumes
for the National Ballet of Canada.
In 1976 she started studies in Early Childhood Education for the
Developmentally Handicapped. After graduation she worked in that
field until 1981.
Now married, she took time out to raise four children. During this
time she found expression for her creative energies through volunteer
activities at her children’s schools, including leading special
art projects and making costumes for school plays.
Camilla made her first sculpture in a one-day work shop and recognized
the need to express herself. She began taking a full range of courses
at Toronto School of Art in January of 1999, graduating in the spring
of 2004. While at school she supplemented her studies with extra
sculpture classes at Central Technical School and studied for six
months at Pasadena City College, in Pasadena, California.
She was selected for the postgraduate Independent Studio Program
at Toronto School of Art, which she completed in 2005.
In 2000 she sculpted a bust of Dr. Ursula Franklin, cast in bronze,
for the Toronto District School Board, and in 2001 was commissioned
to create a bronze bust for St. Mary’s Church in Toronto,
Ontario. Her bronze figurative sculptures are enjoyed in several
private collections.
Since 1999 Camilla has enjoyed participating in numerous group
shows and exhibitions. In 2004 she was selected by the Sculpture
Society of Canada to show in their annual Emerging Artists Exhibition.
Camilla was invited to China and participated in an International
Art Exhibition in Dalian; where she took part in an Artist Residency
at Jinher Bronze Works in July 2005.
