Dr. Aubie Angel, President, DRTC
The Diabetes Research & Treatment Centre (DRTC) was established in 1996 in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba during Dr. Aubie Angel’s tenure as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba and Physician-in-Chief at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. It was established as an interdisciplinary centre in order to promote research, education and treatment of Diabetes in the province of Manitoba. It subsequently evolved as a charitable organization with national scope and engaged in a variety of educational initiatives to draw attention to Diabetes Mellitus as a major public health problem affecting all age groups and ethnic communities.

DRTC provides sponsorship support of Friesen Prize Books featuring essays of Friesen Prizewinners.
DRTC has also collaborated with a variety of like-minded organizations supporting career developments of graduate students at Massey College. This support is focused on Massey Grand Rounds (MGR) and symposia featuring themes related to current health related issues. Here is an example:

DRTC recently participated in the sponsorship of the 2022 Janet Rossant Lectureship featuring Dr. Lorraine Lipscombe. This was part of the 17th annual Massey Grand Rounds (MGR) Symposium entitled: “Modernizing Women’s Health”. The title of her talk was: “The impact of Diabetes on Women across the Lifespan”.
Dr. Lorraine Lipscombe, 2022 Janet Rossant Lecturer at Massey College, delivered her talk at Massey Grand Rounds (MGR) Symposium on October 12, 2022. The title of her Lecture is: “The Impact of Diabetes on Women Across the Lifespan” . In this talk, she discusses how Diabetes uniquely affects women. The video below starting at 8:16 describes fully how Women’s Health is affected by Diabetes and the ethnographic distribution of this burden.
The Janet Rossant Lectureship is part of the Massey Grand Rounds (MGR) program, which features a Symposium. The MGR Symposium on October 12, 2022 examined: “Modernizing Women’s Health”.
