Program

Experience Canada is a program designed to offer children residing in countries outside of Canada, a safe, fun, and cultural experience they will remember for a lifetime. A multi dimensional program, Experience Canada offers an intensive ESL environment to learn English, a Canadian Residential Summer Camp experience, a Wilderness Canoe Outripping component, an Exhilarating Adventure Tourism Chapter, and in depth tours of key attractions throughout various major Canadian Cities. Both Educational and Fun, this month long program keeps students actively learning and experiencing all that Canada has to offer.

TORONTO

The Experience Canada program is based at Seneca College in King City, immediately north of Toronto. A college residence offering a lot of outdoor space in a natural setting, it is used as a 'home' base for outings. Three meals and a bedtime snack are provided each day.

Throughout their time in Toronto, students will be challenged to participate in many creative events on campus, as well as frequent trips to locations throughout the City. These include visits to the CN Tower, Canada’s Wonderland, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, Ontario Science Centre, the Toronto Zoo, a live theatre production, Toronto Island bicycling tour, a professional baseball game, and other experiences.

SUMMER CAMP

The summer camp experience takes place in Northern Ontario on Lake Couchiching. This experience provides the students with a taste of what the world-famous Canadian camp culture is all about. The kids stay in cabins fitting up to 10 people separated by gender. Each cabin comes equipped with a washroom and running drinkable water. Students enjoy three delicious camp meals each day as well as a campfire snack each night. Programming during the stay at the camp varies depending on what each student wishes to participate in. These range from sailing, canoeing and kayaking, to tennis, climbing, archery, arts and crafts and creative games. This component is a definite highlight to the program.

OUT-TRIPPING IN THE ALGONQUIN PARK AREA

Canada is renowned for its natural wilderness areas. While in the Northern Ontario area the students are divided into smaller ‘tripping’ groups. These groups are led by an experienced ‘Out-Tripper’ into some of the most beautiful landscape Canada has to offer. This component of the program is designed to challenge the students and to allow each one of them to experience first-hand the natural beauty of the Lake Country. This five-day out-trip experience is designed to build and encourage group dynamics and leadership initiatives. Each student will be given the opportunity to plan, implement and navigate a portion of the trip, and day-to-day responsibilities will be divided equally throughout. Skills will be developed in fire building, food preparation, canoeing, campground selection and set up, and team work.

OTTAWA: THE NATION’S CAPITAL

Throughout their time in Ottawa, students will reside at the University of Carleton residences, where all meals will be provided. Students will visit Parliament Hill, The Museum of Civilization, the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology, the Rideau Centre, Laser Quest Ottawa and other notable sites. A boat cruise, and a fireworks and light show are also highlights of the Ottawa visit. A two-day White Water Rafting experience on the Ottawa River will conclude the Ottawa segment of the program.
