The product that inspired Evolutionary Music: A guitarist who had a new concert instrument wanted a proper flight case for his travels. Everyone said "Calton". Even though fiberglass is a primitive and heavy material by today's standards, it was the name everyone knew. The guitarist (and now president of Evolutionary Music) wanted something better and didn't have time for a 6-month waiting list. There were 3 main competitors: Accord, Calder, and Karura. The Accord cases were amazingly light, but expensive ($1,400 CAD) and relatively weak (Only 110 lbs crush resistance!). Calder cases were very posh and strong, but more expensive than many concert guitars ($7,000+ CAD). Then came Karura: protection comparable to the Calder Case at nearly one quarter the price. After obtaining a Karura Sentinel case from the Luthier, Karura proved itself on an airline shortly after. We were even able to repair the cosmetic damage on the case with no sign it had even been abused. Because there were no Canadian distributors, a small team was inspired to make this outstanding product more accessible to Canadians.

What's the difference between a Sentinel and a Guardian Case?

One has more resistance to pressure than the other. The deflection vs. load of a Sentinel Case is lower than the Guardian, meaning that it bends less and has a lower chance of the case shell bending inward and damaging your instrument. While the Guardian case is less expensive, we generally recommend the Sentinel as it is lighter and has more deflective resistance to pressure. The Guardian case is still much better than other cases you are likely to find, but for an additional couple hundred dollars it could make all the difference in extreme travel situations.
