Pssst! Let me tell you a secret. You don’t need any fancy equipment to make homemade zucchini noodles. In fact, you probably already have all the tools you need to turn a boring looking zucchini into fun noodles or pasta ribbons. Actually, I take it back. Zucchinis are never boring!
Method #1: Spiralizer
Spiralizer is as fancy as you get when it comes to making zucchini noodles. Personally, I love my spiralizer. I even included it in my top 5 kitchen appliances for a healthy kitchen. It’s really simple and fun to use. Sometimes too much fun. You wouldn’t believe how many times I ended up spiralizing way too many zucchinis and had to eat zucchini noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But that’s a story for another blog post.
I really like how bouncy and firm these noodles turn out. Mushy zucchini noodles are not something I’m a big fan of, to be honest. Ever since I got my spiralizer (you can see the exact model here), I started having zucchini pasta at least once a week.
I do have to admit that even though a spiralizer is pretty affordable, I don’t think it’s worth investing in if you’re not planning on making vegetable noodles often. Who needs another appliance that will be left unused for months and months, collecting dust in your kitchen? So let’s take a look at other methods of making zucchini noodles.
Method #2: Julienne Peeler
Julienne peeler is a handy kitchen utensil that cuts vegetables into thin strips, known as julienne cut. It’s a perfect tool to use when you want to dress up your salads, soups or stir fries. But I bet some of you didn’t know that you can use a julienne peeler to make zucchini noodles as well.
Granted, the noodles don’t turn out as long and curly as the noodles made with a spiralizer, but they still work great in any recipe asking for zucchini pasta.
Julienne peeler is definitely one of the most affordable tools you can get for zucchini noodles, and it also lets you add some style and sparkle to your dishes with julienne cut veggies. You can check you the julienne peeler I have here.
Method #3: Handheld Grater
When I lived in Russia, every single family owned one of these. A grater was one of the first kitchen utensils we purchased after moving to Canada. My family mostly uses it to make our vegetarian borscht, and recently I discovered you can also use your grater to make zucchini noodles.
When using a grater, please be careful with your fingers! You don’t want to end up with zucchini noodles mixed with bits of skin and flesh. Eeeeee.
You can find the grater I have here.
Method #4: Peeler
This a regular potato peeler that I’m sure most of you already have at home. Personally, I peel my potatoes with a knife; I find it much easier and quicker. So this little peeler only gets used if I need to peel a carrot or make zucchini noodles that look like fettuccine pasta.
You guys. Aren’t they beautiful? I *heart* how these noodles look like. Just picture creamy basil pesto and sliced cherry tomatoes on top. Are you drooling yet?
My peeler is from Cuisinart and you can find it here.
Method #5: Food Processor
Using a food processor is probably the quickest method of preparing zucchini noodles at home. If you are in a hurry and need to fill your tummy with delicious zucchini pasta asap, this is the method for you.
I know what you’re thinking. This doesn’t look like noodles, and you’re right. Some people call this zucchini rice; nevertheless, if you feel like making a dish with zucchini noodles and only have a food processor at home, I say go for it. You gotta work with what you’ve got. Am I right?
You can find the exact model of my food processor here.
Now that I showed you how to make zucchini noodles using 5 different kitchen gadgets, there is really no excuse why you can’t try making them at home. So join the official Zucchini Noodles Appreciation Club (ZNAC) where I am the president (#truestory, #notreally) and let’s have fun in kitchen while creating healthy zucchini noodle dishes together.
