Marine Medicals – What to expect

A Marine Medical Examination may only be carried out by a certified Canadian Marine Medical Examiner.

If assessed as fit, a Provisional Marine Medical Certificate (valid for 6 months) will be given to you immediately.  The permanent certificate will be mailed to you from Ottawa.  The validity period will be for 2 years, commencing on the date that the initial medical examination was performed.

At each medical, a new Marine Medical Examination Report needs to be completed.  You will be required to add your demographics. Questions must be answered regarding family history, medical history, including substance abuse, over the counter drugs, prescription drugs, and alcohol intake.    Our staff will check your height, weight, blood pressure, distance and colour vision, hearing, and urine.
