• Whiskey and Water: The Rise and Fall of a Hollywood Dream

This feature documentary tells the inside story of the rise and fall of Vivendi Universal. And it is the epic tale of one of Canada’s great family dynasties – the Bronfmans.

Edgar Bronfman Jr. was the upstart heir to the Seagram whiskey billions. He set out to transform the company into a Hollywood and entertainment giant. In Paris, Jean-Marie Messier was labeled “the most ambitious empire-builder since Napoleon”.

At the height of the dot.com craze they merged their empires. For a brief shining moment, Vivendi Universal epitomized the thrilling promise of media convergence.  Instead there was conflict and betrayal. For the Bronfman dynasty it was a calamity costing them about $6 billion and their legendary whiskey empire.
