Francesco Patriarca operates between cities and across borders. Italian-born the photographs that he takes are informed by both the individuals and the places that he comes into contact with, the works are social commentaries that carry with them poetic interjection.
The photographs are often put forward in series, decoding narratives of actual events that unfold in real time, without prescription, in front of the camera, events that are performed, enacted through chance encounter. In Elektro Market (2007) a coffee cup sits on a circular wooden table, two ordinary objects that offer the pictorial framing of a classical still life. This unremarkable tableau was a scene identified by Patriarca and photographed, his controlled and precise approach to the activity of photography instilling lyrical poise upon the subject. The work infers the presence of an unknown collaborator as conscious or otherwise the coffee cup sits abandoned.
