Why Learn Guitar?
First of all it's a blast. Playing an instrument is a great way to socialize with other people and it's good for you. Studies have shown that it improves math scores in younger students (Rauscher), and can help delay dementia in adults(Hanna-Pladdy).
Why Private Lessons?
With all the information availabe online, books, DVD's and YouTube why bother taking private lessons? Simply put a DVD can't listen and watch you play. A good teacher can not only answer the specific question you're asking but knows when you may be asking the wrong question in the first place.
By all means take advantage of the tremendous resources available online ( I've even included some links on this site that I find useful) but remember there's no substitute for a good teacher.
