Day One - Day Two - Day Three - Day Four - Day Five - Day Six

Day One

Packing, packing, packing, packing and a bit more packing! We started the day by picking up our U-Haul truck at 7:00am after a very late night packing.

We are very fortunate to have a lot of great friends and a great family, as we had a small army of helpers to load the truck with us and finish packing.

We had originally planned to spend all day Saturday packing and loading the truck, and then leave Sunday morning, but the ferry schedule to Newfoundland from Nova Scotia was uncooperative, so we had to leave Saturday afternoon. We had hoped to hit the road by 3:00pm, but we finally rolled out at 5:00pm. Not too bad when you consider how much stuff we crammed into that little truck!

The video above starts at our first rest stop in Ajax, ON just outside of Toronto. Ella quickly made friends with a nice lady making paper flowers. The U-Haul was about as "gentle" on gas as we had figured, so the pain of paying for gas became a regular theme throughout our trip.

We reached Gananoque, ON at a reasonable 11:00pm... a bit tired to say the least! Gananoque is one of the more famous "thousand island" ports, and is a tourist haven in the summer months. In the winter however, it's a sleepy little town. We spent the night at the Quality Inn which was a great hotel. The room was spacious for four people... but a bit cramped for four adults and four children! No matter, the beds were comfortable and after our long day, VERY inviting!
