Non Hodgkins Lymphoma Risk Factors, NHL Risk Factors



Non Hodgkins Lymphoma risk factors include:

1) Age (Most cases occur in people in their 60s).

2) Abnormal or deficient immune system. This may be congenital (present at birth) or acquired (Occur later in life due to an infection like AIDS, organ transplant patients, Rheumatoid Arthritis patients).

3) High dose radiation (Atomic bomb survivors, nuclear accidents like Tchernobyl,...)

4) EBV (Ebstein Barr virus) infections.

5) The parasite that causes malaria (Mostly Burkitt's lymphoma in Africa).

6) A bacteria, Helicobacter pylori, known to cause stomach ulcers, can also cause some lymphomas (MALT lymphoma) of the stomach.

7) Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy for treatment of other cancers.

Other stipulated risk factors include obesity, hepatitis C, and exposure to benzene, insecticides, or weed.
