FarmCity Fresh Cart and FarmCity Co-Op Box program

SFU Community Trust in partnership with Sustainable SFU continue our efforts to provide fresh local produce options to the UniverCity community by introducing two new exciting programs: FarmCity Fresh Cart and FarmCity Co-Op Box program. The FarmCity Fresh Cart joins our popular annual Busker series, which livens up the Town Square each Wednesday afternoon. For a list of our summer busker entertainers, click here.

FARMCITY FRESH CART
The FarmCity Fresh Cart is a trailer equipped to sell produce, fruit, salads, ice-cream, prepared foods and drinks each Wednesday in the Town Square from 3:00pm - 6:00pm starting June 25th and running until October 2014. The FarmCity's Fresh Cart market stand will be selling the same produce available in the FarmCity Co-Op CSA boxes (see below) and acting as a mini-farmers' market. The drinks, salads, and other prepared foods will be made by local, small businesses using fresh ingredients from local farms.

Join us in the Town Square at the FarmCity Fresh Cart and help bring farmers and consumers together! For more information on the FarmCity Fresh Cart, please visit:www.farmcity.coop/fresh-cart.html

FARMCITY CO-OP BOX PROGRAM
Sustainable SFU is excited to announce a new local food program available at Burnaby Mountain. UniverCity community members can now subscribe to a weekly delivery of seasonal vegetables from a new cooperative of Metro Vancouver farmers. Sustainable SFU and UniverCity are hosting a pick-up location for the FarmCity Co-Op's CSA Box at the Town Square on Burnaby Mountain. For $42 a week, subscribers will receive a diverse mix of veggies direct from nine Metro Vancouver farms -- including Urban Digs Farm and Earth Apple Farm right here in Burnaby!

Community supported agriculture (CSA) is a convenient and rewarding way to enjoy fresh, seasonal produce while supporting farmers in the Metro Vancouver regions. The boxes will also include honey and fresh cut flowers, as bees and pollinators are a key component of healthy food systems. Subscribers pay up-front for a 17 week program, which provides member farms with the security and income needed for a successful growing season. Each box is designed to feed two hungry vegetarians or a household of four who like their veggies on the side. Each week subscribers will also receive recipes and updates from the farmers.

Sustainable SFU volunteers will distribute the boxes on Wednesday afternoons beginning June 25th in the Town Square. To learn more about the new FarmCity Co-Op CSA box program please visit:  http://sustainablesfu.org/actionareas/food/sfu-harvest-box/csa-box/.
