Questions and answers

What is the deadline that I must file my tax return?
In general, you must send your return by April 30 of the current year

Are we required to file a return for a deceased person?
If you are the legal representative of the estate of a deceased person, you may need to file a return. For more information on the subject, consult the guide by clicking this link.

What is the first day that I can send my returns?
If you use IMPÔTEL or IMPÔNET, February 20 is the first day you can send them. As for the paper forms version, they are available in early February, so if you have all your statements you can send your statements to various governments. It is best to wait until the first week of March to file your return because the law provides different companies until the last day of February to send you statements for tax purposes

What is a notice of assessment?
It's an annual statement sent by the Canadian Revenue Agency detailing the amount of their tax refund, tax credit and income tax already paid.
It also shows your RRSP/PRPP deduction limit statement and other information relevant to you file.
Revenu Quebec can also send you a notice of assessment

I'm missing some income tax papers or statements for my tax returns, what should I do?
Ask your employer or the issuer to send you another copy. If you know in advance that you will not receive your slip in time to file your return, attach a note to your return showing the name, address pay, the type of income involved, and an explanation of the steps you made ??to get the sheet in question. You can use your last pay stub of the year in question to calculate your income and deductions. If you file your return electronically, keep all your receipts in order to submit upon request

My husband and I are living on our Pension Plan and federal pension. Can we split them?
No! The public pensions are not income eligible for splitting, nor withdrawals from your RRSP. Unlike the federal splitting of pension income is not considered in calculating your installments in Quebec[Link]
