QUICK-SWAP - Integrating Road and Rail more efficiently

Combined road-rail intermodal transport usually requires large terminal facilities with cranes or top-lifts to transfer containers from railcars to semi-trailers and vice-versa.  Because of the relatively high handling costs and transfer times, intermodal shipments are thus only considered for high volume freight on long-distance routes of 500 miles or more.

With that in mind, there is little or no benefit to using a road-rail combination for shipments, which involve either small volumes or short distances.

What if there was a system that would eliminate the huge terminal infrastructures, with the associated delays and costs?

Enter QUICK-SWAP - a simple and economical horizontal transfer of a standardized container unit, between road and rail, without the need of fixed installations.

QUICK-SWAP involves the following components:
  • Straight-Truck or Semi-Trailer, equipped with a QUICK-SWAP chain or hook horizontal transfer system.
  • Container with UIC-standard base frame.
  • Flat-Deck railcar, equipped with QUICK-SWAP turntable frames.
