UNINSURED SERVICES

Not all medical services are covered by your government OHIP plan. For example, they will not pay for examinations for work, camps, and drivers licenses. They will not pay for visits which are the result of a request by a third party such as an employer or an insurance company. They will not pay for any documentation, notes, transfer of records, telephone advice, or renewal of prescriptions.

If you require any of these services that are not covered by OHIP you may choose to pay for each service individually as it is provided or you may pay an annual fee to cover these uninsured services. You are free to choose either method of payment. A list of uninsured services and fees follows.

If payment of either the individual fees or the annual premium would produce undue financial hardship the fees may be reduced or eliminated.

Minor surgery: The surgical treatment of benign skin lesions is no longer a benefit of OHIP. If you request treatment of a skin lesion an initial assessment will be necessary to determine if its treatment will be covered by OHIP. The fee for the treatment will be determined before treatment and may vary from $20 for the treatment of a single, small lesion to $40 $60 for the treatment of multiple or more complex lesions. Excision of skin cancers or suspected skin cancers, and cysts are still paid for by OHIP. Cautery or removal of skin tags, papillomas, or moles for cosmetic reasons is not covered.
