Who we are

The South Island Nursing Footcare Associates are a focused group of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses with post graduate training in nursing footcare, who each manage a private practice.

Goals

To support one another by sharing knowledge and skills.

To maintain evidence based standards by pursuing on going educational opportunities and attending monthly meetings.

To promote public awareness of the benefits of footcare and the role of the footcare nurse within the health care team.

Mission Statement

To network as a group of nurses who are dedicated to providing quality footcare for their clients.

Historical Background

In 1998 four independent footcare nurses met to discuss clinical issues, education, time management and business questions. The goal was to set high standards for footcare in the Victoria area. As their businesses grew so did the need for more footcare nurses. Two of the founding members taught courses in footcare to other nurses. In order to maintain the goals of the original group and support the new nurses in their practice they met at a founding member's home on a monthly basis.

Initially Ontario Footcare Nursing Standards were followed until a newer footcare training program was developed locally, bringing many new enthusiastic members, bylaws and standards.

From 2001 to 2010 a free footcare clinic for the homeless was held monthly at Christ Church Cathedral.

Presentations were made in newspaper articles, at health fairs, colleges, church and community groups.

In 2004 SINFA started a phone line answering service where by members of the public could leave a message that would be followed up by a SINFA volunteer in order to respond to requests for information and or referrals for footcare services.
