    In accordance with Board Policies, transportation is provided for students who live within their Home School attendance area and outside their school’s grade appropriate Non-Transportation Zone. As indicated below, transportation eligibility will change throughout a student’s school career:

    All YCDSB and YRDSB students in grades JK-3 who live within 1.2 km of their school are not eligible for transportation.

    All YCDSB and YRDSB students in grades 4-8 who live within 1.6 km of their school are not eligible for transportation.

    All YCDSB students in grades 9-12 who live within 4.8 km of their school in a transit served area are not eligible for transportation.

    All YRDSB students in grades 9-12 who live within a transit served area are not eligible for transportation.
    Please note exceptions to these criteria are made for students identified by their school to possess Special Needs and as such require specialized transportation services.

    I have requested a new stop or stop change, how will I know if it has been added?
    School or Student Transportation Services Staff will notify you of your request's status once it has been investigated.Please NOTE that stop changes will not be considered during the first three weeks of school in September. During this period STS will be focussed on the following priorities:

    * bus overloads

    * eligible student with no transportation

    * late bus arrivals

    I have a question regarding a bus stop location or pick up/drop time. Who should I call?
    Please contact your child’s school.

    Do I need to confirm information for an existing bus Stop each year?
    NO. If you do not change home addresses,school enrolment or caregiver location , your child's current bus stop location and times will remain the same and you are not required to take any action to receive transportation in September.

    It is much too far for my child to walk to the bus stop.Can I have a bus stop right at my door?
    Students may be asked to walk a short distance to and from a centralized bus stop. According to YRDSB and YCDSB Board policy, Elementary students can walk up to 400 metres to a stop and secondary students up to 600 metres.Having everyone walk to a central stop greatly reduces bus ride times.

    Who is going to be responsible if my child gets injured while walking to the bus stop?
    It is the parents’ responsibility for their child’s safety and conduct while walking to, from and waiting at a designated stop.

    Can my child be picked-up and/or dropped off at daycare?
    Each school has a list of pre-approved / planned sites to accomodate parent's that may require daycare programs. Transportation may be provided to these locations . Please contact school staff to determine which site(s) is approved for your school.

    How do I determine if a bus is operating as scheduled ?
    Once a bus is 15 minutes late, School Bus contractors are required to enter the bus on our website's Late Bus report.  Click here to see today's Late Bus Report.

    Why are buses late?
    Some of the causes for late buses include traffic, road closures, inclement weather, vehicle breakdowns.

    I arrived home late this afternoon and cannot find my child.What do I do?
    Students are usually returned to school if they are not met at a bus stop. Please contact your child’s school to determine if he/she is there. If your call is not answered, contact the bus company operating your child’s bus or STS staff at 905 713 2535.

    Why are there no seatbelts on school buses?
    School buses have “compartmentalized designed seating” which is intended to protect students in the event of an accident. Tests conducted by Transport Canada have demonstrated that these specially designed seats result in fewer injuries when compared in tests, with school bus seatbelt systems.
