Carl Hoyt, CFA

President

Carl Hoyt founded Seymour Investment Management in 2010, based on principles and best practices learned during his 30+ year investment career. Carl began his career in equity research and held positions at Pemberton Securities and Goepel Shields & Partners. In 1998, Carl co-founded Cypress Capital Management and as Chief Investment Officer, was instrumental in building a proven investment strategy and solid track record of investment returns.

Carl and his wife, Lianne, provide financial, leadership and organizational support to several non-profit organizations including Saint James Music Academy, The Audain Art Museum, Room to Read and Arthritis Research Canada.

Carl spends his leisure time enjoying golf, cycling and travel.

Kelly Woodall, CFA

Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager

Kelly Woodall brings more than 20 years of diverse investment experience to Seymour. Early in her career, Kelly worked in private client management at various firms, including Phillips, Hager & North. Kelly’s passion for stock-picking led her to analyst roles in sell-side equity research at UBS Securities and Raymond James. Kelly gained valuable experience as a lead portfolio manager at Cypress Capital Ltd. before joining Seymour at the firm’s inception in 2010.

Kelly sits on the investment committee of the Vancouver Foundation, Canada’s largest community foundation, working throughout British Columbia to harness the gifts of ideas, money, time and energy to make meaningful and lasting impacts in neighborhoods and communities. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys time with friends and family, and spending time in nature, hiking, biking, and skiing.

Kyle Harrison, CFA, FEA

Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager

Kyle Harrison began his career in the investment industry in 1992 with Marleau Lemire Securities. As a Managing Director at CIBC World Markets, he was a trusted partner to institutional clients across Western Canada and the United States. Kyle holds a Family Enterprise Advisor designation, and is passionate about client education and helping families achieve their objectives. Kyle joined Seymour in 2010.

Kyle’s family breeds and shows Arabian horses from their Pemberton farm. His three kids enjoy various animals, horseback riding, skiing, mountain biking, surfing and golf. Kyle tries to keep up.

Anthony Werry, CFA

Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager

Anthony Werry has been a trusted advisor to high net worth clients for more than 30 years. Anthony began his career with Pemberton Securities, and also held roles at RBC Dominion Securities in Toronto and Royal Bank Investment Management in Vancouver. In 1998, Anthony co-founded Cypress Capital Management, where he was a managing partner. In 2015, Anthony joined Seymour, adding his extensive experience in managing investments for high net worth families.

Anthony and his wife, Janna, have been busy raising three children, and with two of them now at University, they are looking forward to engaging in other activities including community and outdoor pursuits.

Dennis Chan, CFA

Partner & Portfolio Manager

Dennis began his career in 2005 at Phillips, Hager & North as an equity analyst and developed into a portfolio manager responsible for $4B in assets. He has been consistently recognized by the investment industry as a thought leader by Brendan Woods’ annual TopGun survey. In 2018, Dennis joined Seymour, integrating his strong investment process into the team’s shared philosophy.

Outside of the office, Dennis can usually be found somewhere near a rink taking his son to hockey, or playing make believe with his two young daughters.

Samantha Tennant, CFA, CPA, CA

Partner & Portfolio Manager

Samantha began her career at PwC with a focus on the financial services sector. There she achieved her Chartered Accountant designation before going on to become a CFA charterholder. In 2017 Samantha joined the Seymour team to help high net worth families achieve their long term investment goals. She brings an accounting and financial background to her role as Portfolio Manager helping to educate and guide multi-generations of high net worth clients.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Samantha enjoys getting involved in her community. She is a long-standing board member of Backpack Buddies, an organization that provides weekend meals to children in need. She also sits on the Finance Committee for the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club and is a mentor to young women in business.

In her spare time you will often find her skiing up on Whistler Blackcomb, travelling or hiking and exploring the BC Mountains with her beloved family and friends.

Brenda Hoy

Private Client Operations & Administration

Born and raised in Vancouver, Brenda graduated from UBC in the Faculty of Education. After teaching for a few years, Brenda began working in financial services. She brought over 20 years of experience in portfolio administration when she joined Seymour in 2010 to establish client administration and operations. Along with the private client services team, she is responsible for client account opening, portfolio administration and reporting.

Brenda and her husband Erik enjoy spending time with the family, hiking and running the north shore trails and travelling.

Natasha Koval

Private Client Administration

Natasha began her career in finance as an operations manager in the Calgary head office of the largest Canadian Foreign Exchange company. She later moved to Trail, BC in an administrative role at a Financial Planning office. Missing the vibe of a big city, Natasha moved to Vancouver to join RBC Dominion Securities as an associate. Natasha Koval joined Seymour in 2015, where she is responsible for new account openings, transfers, administration and operations. She focuses on providing superior client-oriented service.

Natasha is passionate about nutrition. She is volunteering in her community to bring healthy eating habits to children and their parents. Natasha spends her free time with her spouse, Art, and daughter, Sophia, hiking, biking and planning their next adventure.

Katie Gibbons

Private Client Administration

Katie started her career at StoneCastle Investment Management in 2014 as a research assistant while completing her Bachelors of Arts in Economics at UBC-O. She then joined RBC Dominion Securities where she interacted daily with clients and was involved in portfolio modeling. Katie’s responsibilities expanded to include being the designated trader for the discretionary portfolio management team. She joined Seymour in 2021.

Katie is currently a CFA Level 3 Candidate.

Outside of the office, Katie spends most of her free time traveling throughout British Columbia, skiing, playing soccer and hiking with her dog Lizzie.

Sarah Staddon

Operations & Institutional Administration

Sarah Staddon began her career in the investment management industry in 1985 with M.K. Wong & Associates which later became HSBC Asset Management (Canada) Ltd. In 2002 she joined Cypress Capital Management Ltd, and later joined Seymour in 2013 where she brought her experience in the administration of the Institutional accounts and pooled funds, performance measurement and corporate actions.

Sarah is involved in the local community volunteering at events such as Golden Spike Days and Ribfest. In her spare time, Sarah can be found walking in the woods with her husband and two dogs or entertaining with friends.

Cynthia Hawley

Compliance & Operations

Cynthia began her career in the investment management industry in 1993 with M.K.Wong & Associates which later became HSBC Asset Management (Canada) Ltd. In 1998, she joined Cypress Capital Management Ltd. where she helped to develop and implement policies and procedures as well as establish and maintain their operations. Cynthia joined Seymour at the time of its inception to help build and maintain the compliance and operations side of the firm, a role she maintains today.

Cynthia graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Economics).

With children in high school and university, Cynthia is enjoying the transition from soccer mom and Girl Guide leader to runner and downhill skier. More than anything, she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
