ABOUT US
Tie-down roping in Canada will remain “alive and well” due in part to the launching of a new association in 2011 called TIE-DOWN CANADA (TDC) which will endeavor to promote and support this exciting rodeo event through a series of sanctioned ropings throughout the province and perhaps all of Canada in the future.
Unlike the United States Calf Ropers Association (USCRA) where ropers are categorized in a numbering system based on their roping ability, TIE-DOWN CANADA ropings will operate with everyone roping in one equalized division which will be based on age and roping ability with the goal of everyone having an equal opportunity to win.
Craig FitzPatrick is the organizer of this new concept of Canada’s Richest Tie-Down Roping Event. “I’ve been mulling the idea around for quite a while now and have talked to several ropers and promoters to get their input in order to have a system that works for everyone. But, as we all know, you can’t please everyone all of the time. I think if everyone supports this concept our sport will continue to flourish and grow which is the goal of the organization. There has been a system in the US (USCRA) for years now that has been very successful so I hope that we too can also grow to a National level. The US has hundreds of tie-down ropers, a lot more than in Canada, therefore, their numbering system works good because of the huge volume of contestants. That can’t effectively be done in Canada, so the equalization format is really the only alternative. I think it will work well but ultimately the ropers will have to support it. There’s a lot of added money for all ropers to compete for, so I hope the turn out will be strong.”
