These courses can be used to satisfy the free electives of any degree structure. They may also be used to fulfill the specialization in Web Page Design as part of the Bachelor of Judaic Studies.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is the industry-standard vector graphics software. Whether you are creating full colour illustrations or line drawings, this powerful tool will help you create beautiful artwork for any web site. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the Illustrator workspace and tools. With particular emphasis on using Illustrator for the creation of superb web graphics and animations, students will learn to unleash their creative freedom!

Advanced Independent Study Project

This independent study course is the culmination of all the courses for the Web Development Program. The goal of this course is for students to produce a web site from concept to completion and lastly to publish that web site in a live environment on the web. Knowledge gained in the design and animation, programming and content courses are all applicable in this final. Students will be working with a real client, and will use this website as a piece in their online portfolio.



Concepts in Production

Process makes perfect! This course is aimed at improving efficiently and utilization of time and resources. Students will learn how to increase the pace and accuracy at which they work by use of production methodology and tools. This provides invaluable skills which are required the in the transition from the amateur to the professional world.

Design Principles

Design informs us and inspires us. Design is all around us in our everyday environments. Good design can communicate ideas. On the web, design helps make content accessible, brands more experiential, commerce more actionable and functions easily achievable. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of design. Students will then apply this knowledge of the role and visual language of design in critiquing and creating effective web sites.

Flash

Flash is the professional standard for producing high-impact web experiences. Whether it is an animation, a web site interface, or even a game, Flash will add depth and dimension to your web site. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the Macromedia Flash workspace and tools. Students will learn to build interactivity and multimedia into their web sites.

HTML I

With the fundamentals of working with a computer and the Internet covered this course covers the basic foundational skills of writing HTML. Understanding of the process behind designing a website will broaden and students will develop the confidence to work through some new territory on their own. The goal of this workshop is to introduce students to the basic elements of HTML. This is a hands-on workshop where students will build basic web pages.

HTML II

This course builds on the basic tools covered in HTML 101. Through practical exercises, students will learn to code more complex pages and introduce more complex elements into their code. This course combines all learning completed during the previous courses to enable students to build their first functional website.



Information Architecture

Whether selling, promoting, informing, or educating, your web site content should be both engaging and accessible to your user. In this course, students will focus on two aspects of content: on usability and information architecture and on the special considerations of editing and copywriting for the web and creating user-friendly websites.

Introduction to Computer Applications

During the course of the Web Design Program, the computer will become a good friend. It is important to address the fundamentals of working on a computer in order to broaden our understanding, and provide the confidence to work through some new territory. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals elements of using a computer and the Internet. Students will gain basic administrative and functional computer skills, become familiar with accessing the Internet, and learn to use help tools to complete new or more difficult tasks.

Photoshop I

Adobe Photoshop is to the web designer what pots and pans are to a chef. It is the professional image creation and image-editing standard for web designers. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the Adobe Photoshop workspace and tools. Through in-class exercises and take-home assignments, students will gain practical knowledge with which to experiment and create their own web page designs.

Photoshop II

How do I go beyond the basics? With a solid handle of the Photoshop basics, you now have what it takes to move onto the next level. Intermediate Photoshop continues to build on the skills learned in Photoshop 101. The goal of this course is to encourage further experimentation with Photoshop. Students will be exposed to additional features and techniques for photo manipulation. Emphasis is also placed on refining designs and techniques while applying basic design principles to layouts.

Professional Development

This course is composed of six individual sessions focused on skills not directly covered in the course. Students are exposed to different industry experts and are taught skill that will aid them in the real world. Lectures and workshops cover topics including: project management, building client relationships, selling yourself, and exposure to new industry software and process.
