I can give you an approximate estimate if you
• send me a few representative pages and a table of contents (if there is one);
• explain what the project is about and who the intended audience is; and
• provide a total word (not page) count.
The cost of any project depends on many variables, in particular, the following:
• type of work requested (e.g., copy editing, rewriting, proofreading, etc.)
• length of the document (i.e., number of words and other elements such as tables, diagrams, footnotes, etc.)
• complexity of the subject and the document
• intended audience
• writing style
• number of authors
• turnaround time required
To give you an exact quotation, I usually need to see the entire document.
