Having a DSL Internet connection does not mean you have to get a second phone line to keep your Internet service. Requesting a “dry loop” from your Internet Service Provider will allow you to transfer your phone number to VoiceCool and keep your Internet connection active.
Why do I need a “dry loop”
If you have a DSL Internet connection, your Internet service and phone service are “bundled” together on the same phone line. A dry loop allows you to “unbundled” your Internet connection and phone line, so your Internet service remains active even when you transfer your phone number to VoiceCool. There is a small charge incurred by the ISP to use a dry loop which will be passed onto you. The diagram below demonstrates how a dry loop keeps your Internet connection active.
How to get a “dry loop”
- Contact your Internet Service Provider and request a “dry loop” for your Internet service.
- Your existing Internet connection and phone number will be “unbundled”, and your phone line will become a standalone service which can now be switched to VoiceCool (without loss of your DSL Internet service).
- Most ISPs will offer dry loop based Internet services. If your ISP does not provide dry loops, you may contact one of our partner Internet Service Providers – Pathway Communications.
