canühome

The canühome project grew out of research conducted by students and faculty as part of the World House Project. In partnership with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Institute has developed a full-sized model of the Canühome that is now traveling to trade shows in Canada and later Europe.

The canühome is an 850 square foot residence containing a kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom and bedroom. It draws design inspiration from CMHC’s EquilibriumTM, Healthy HousingTM, and FlexHousingTM initiatives. It is constructed using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood products, making it eligible for credits under LEED standards. The curved roof and double-walled construction allow for more efficient passive solar heating, insulation and air circulation.
