I am truly overwhelmed by the incredible outpouring of love and support. This is why it was an incredibly difficult decision. There were many factors considered in making this decision. After 8 years of investing all my energy, everyday, working 60 hour weeks indefinitely, I had to stop and assess what is best for my well being. I felt there was still so much more potential, the possibilities are endless, but I have drained all of my physical resources. Without a support system or protection for small business owners, it makes it difficult to continue. Ottawa has proven there is a need for community spaces that encourage and nurture all the incredible talent that exists here and across Canada. Thankfully things like Herd Magazine, Ottawa Showbox, and apt613, to name a few, exist. People are doing wonderful things in Ottawa, please continue to support them.

Hello All,
I have some news to share with everyone. After 7+ years I have decided to end this Raw Sugar chapter. It has been an incredible journey; the Raw Sugar dream. It has fulfilled and far exceeded any of my expectations I had when I first dreamt this dream. Raw Sugar opened with the intention to offer a space where different communities could come together in a welcoming and creative environment, creating a cultural hub. It has been a true honour to find a place in Ottawa’s community, thank you. To those who told me how inspired they were by the space, by a woman-owned business, by the creativity offered and how Raw Sugar impacted their lives, I forever thank you. Your stories have kept me going all these years.
What a humbling experience this has been. I had sincerely hoped the place would carry on; circumstances beyond my control, however, have led me to close my doors today. While the time has come for me to move on, know that this was an incredibly difficult decision to make.
To all of the small business folk hustling on a daily basis, the respect I have for you is infinite. Please continue to support your local favourites, they can’t exist without you.
I would really like to thank all the people that brought me into their lives, from CBC Radio One, Beaus, Spectrasonic, apt613, Jackpine to the regular Raw Sugarers. My incredible neighbours, my rock solid friends and family, and the Raw Sugar crew, past and present, I’ll never find the right words to thank you. The list is endless. To every single person that has been a part of Raw Sugar, I hope you know what impact you have had over the years. Raw Sugar was built by all of you, I hold you all close to my heart.
My love letter to Raw Sugar will simply read “thank you for all that you have given me, I will miss you.”
May you all follow your dreams, big or small, they will forever change you.
