About Us
Established in 1997, incorporated as a society in 2000 and registered as a charity in 2001, Nanaimo Foodshare Society connects the community with resources, skills, and knowledge to create change that increases healthy food for everyone.
Specifically, we:
- Work with community partners to address hunger in the community
- Build food skills
- Bring the community together to share resources
- Build community capacity to provide healthy foods to everyone
- Through our programs, we support local sustainable food, help build food policy and develop coordinated community strategies to improve food securi
VIHA Island Food Hubs
Nanaimo Foodshare is one of eight Island Health Food Security Hubs across the island. The Food Security Hubs are a collective of organizations working together with Island Health and other community partners across the Island Region to support healthy food systems, address food insecurity and ultimately improve health.

Employment Programs
Nanaimo Foodshare offers a variety of work placements or youth & adults with disabilities and barriers to employment.
Seniors Programs
Seniors, connect with your peers to learn healthy eating habits, and make healthy food accessible.
Youth Programs
Our youth programs offer a chance for kids to develop food skills, getting hands on experience in the kitchen and the garden.
Community Programs
Our community programs promote food access and food skills education for all people in our local region.
