Situated on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Georgian Bay, Collingwood, Ontario is a town in Simcoe County. Collingwood, ON is renowned as the gateway to the Blue Mountain ski resort, featuring exciting downhill and cross-country trails, and stands as a major recreation area for the southern part of Ontario. The land in the Collingwood area was first inhabited by the Petun nation, who were driven out by the Iroquois in 1650. European settlers arrived in the area in the 1840s, bringing with them their unique culture and religion. Named after Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, Collingwood was incorporated as a town in 1858. Collingwood's economy is largely based on recreation and tourism, retail and service, and manufacturing.
