Kamloops Search and Rescue

Kamloops Search and Rescue volunteer members are all ages and from all walks of life. They share a common interest in providing important life-saving services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All team members are skilled in ground searches and are trained in the use of snowmobiles and UTVs. Interested individuals can also receive further training in rope, swift water, ice rescue, and other specialized disciplines. Strong community support, at many levels, allows us to provide this essential service.

KSAR is called out by the Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) to assist the RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and BC Coroners Office as well as providing alerts and evacuation assistance during events such as wildfires or floods for civic and municipal governments.

Welcome to KSAR's Member Monday! Each Monday we will be profiling one of our volunteers to share the strength and diversity of our team.

🔴Meet Carole Capper. Carole has been with KSAR for 9 years and is the K9 Handler for one of KSAR's best; Parker.
Carole is a Nurse Practitioner and has spent many years working in trauma and is now the Director of Surgical Services, however she maintains a very "hands on" approach to nursing. In her spare time Carole enjoys live music, mountain biking, hiking, skiing and hunting.
Carole feels it is an honour to be part of any search and rescue task, regardless of the circumstances. She enjoys being part of the KSAR team, learning new skills and working with her best buddy Parker.

Want to volunteer with KSAR? You can learn from and work with Carole and the other great members of our team. Recruitment has begun for our Fall 2024 GSAR class. Please visit www.ksar.ca and click "Join Us" to read about the application procedure. "There is great value in helping others" (JM/DG)

Yesterday afternoon, KSAR was tasked out to rescue some stranded motorists who had gotten stuck on a snowy forest service road.

As is usual on tasks like these in this time of year, we brought along some snowmobiles in case the conditions didn't allow us to drive our trucks to the subject's location.

Once we had reached the road we had to travel along to get to the stuck vehicle, it was determined that we did not need the snowmobiles and that it wasn't feasible to pull our snowmobile trailer up the road with the snow. With that in mind, we unhooked the trailer and left it on the side of the road.

We were then able to drive to the subjects and bring them out.

On our way back out, we met a gentleman coming along the road and chatted with him. He told us that when he came across our trailer, he was concerned that it had perhaps been stolen and abandoned and that he had called the RCMP. Luckily, the RCMP knew we were in the area and he was assured that everything was fine.

We did not get his name but we would like to thank him and the other residents in the area for their concern and really appreciate that he took the time to determine the status of our trailer and came by to talk to us.

It was a good lesson for us as it was not something we had considered when we had dropped the trailer. In the event we need to leave a trailer unattended again, we'll do our best to indicate that we're operating in the area.
