Mattie Gwin

Mattie Gwin, 94, of Payson died peacefully on Feb. 8, 2015, at Hospice Compassus.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Casa Grande Mountain View Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. today at Calvary Chapel in Payson, with a reception following.

Ms. Gwin was born on Aug. 6, 1920, on a small farm in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, and was a daughter of Bessie and Andrew Jeter. She moved to Arizona in 1956 and was a homemaker, raising seven children. After they were grown, she worked as a seamstress for a small manufacturing company in Casa Grande before retiring in 1986.

She stayed busy assisting other elderly residents in her complex and helping with her family. She had strong faith and lived her life as best she could to reflect that faith. She was devoted to her family and loved people and especially children. She was kind, gentle and an inspiration and lived the last two years at Ordinary Lifestyles assisted living in Payson.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Boys of Pine and Carol Morgan of Payson; two sons, Joe Gwin of Payson and David Gwin of Casa Grande; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sons, Jim and Charles Dudash and Richard Gwin; a grandson, Nathan Dudash; six brothers; and five sisters.
