Guitarist Patrick Feely has made solo appearances at the Sauble Beach Guitar Festival, the Visiting Artists Series at McMaster University, and the Friends of Guitar Festival in Brantford. He has performed concerti by Rodrigo, Ponce, and Vivaldi, with the McMaster University Orchestra, the Grand River Players, and the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician Mr. Feely has performed across Canada with his duo partner Dr. Brad Mahon, as “The East West Guitar Duo”, and with his daughter Emilee Feely as “Duo Feely”
Patrick has adjudicated National and International music competitions including the Montreal International Guitar Festival, the Developing Artists Grants Competition at the Hynatyshyn Foundation, the Vancouver North Shore festival, Toronto Kiwanis, London K. W. Kiwanis, Barrie Kiwanis, Burlington Rotary, Guelph Kiwanis and many others.
Mr Feely’s students have earned top prizes in international competitions (Montreal Youth Competition, Great Lakes Guitar Competition), all levels of the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Competition, and have been accepted into Graduate and Undergraduate university performance programs across Canada and Europe.
Patrick is a sessional faculty member at McMaster University and the University of Western Ontario where he teaches guitar orchestra, guitar pedagogy and private studio instruction. He is a guitar specialist with the College of Examiners (Royal Conservatory) where he examines guitar candidates across Canada and the US.
Patrick received the undergraduate music degree from McMaster University and the Masters of Music Degree in Performance from the University of Toronto. He is the only guitarist to have receive A.R.C.T.’s in both Guitar Performance and Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory - Jeffrey McFadden has been his principle guitar teacher. Patrick is currently completing the Masters of Music in Education Degree at the University of Western Ontario; his research thesis examines the effects of video recording on the self-regulating behaviours of guitar students. Mr. Feely is enrolled in the PhD. Music Education Program at the University of Western Ontario, beginning classes in the fall of 2017.
Patrick is the founder, Artistic Director and Conductor of Community Orchestras program at the Guitar Society of Brantford, the Chairman of the Education and Outreach Committee at the Sauble Beach Guitar festival, and the director of the “Guitar Congress” programme, hosted by the University of Toronto. This full day event invites GTA classroom guitar educators and their ensembles to perform for each other, to perform en masse, and to discuss the future of guitar education in schools.
