The word divorce seems to scare a lot of people, the oxford dictionary states that it is the legal dissolution of a marriage, a severance.  Which can be scary for some people, especially if you have been married for a long time or it can mean a new beginning for a new life.

So many issues may need to be resolved in a divorce but if both parties can work through it together in a civil manner then they can both begin new lives.

The main reason that you may need a divorce is to allow you to legally marry someone else.  Your rights to division of property, custody and access and support are all available to you on separation whether or not you are divorced.
