Danamac Concrete's Blog

Danamac recently completed a project for a local university that had interior exposed aggregate flooring.  This flooring, while originally was quite likely a beautiful finish, was old, soiled and not conducive to carts being rolled down the hallways.  This amazing transformation brought these floors back to life and add to the beauty of the space.  See below for the before and after shots….

Diamond Buffing is an economical option for finishing concrete flooring.  This includes one polishing step and sealing.

Ideal for low to medium traffic areas this finish allows for quick installation.  It is reliant on the finish of the concrete as it enhances the surface, it does not alter the appearance so any defects in the floor will still be there.  This process does not expose any sands or aggregate.

Finished flooring has a low sheen, is smooth and easy to clean.

The Centre for Excellence for Sustainable Building Technologies and Renewable Energy Conservation – with a title like that the floor had better have something to add to the mix.

Salt and Pepper concrete floors added many benefits to this project where the goal was to incorporate many of the buildings materials and systems to attain the optimum use and efficiency.

Not only are polished concrete floors beautiful and bright, they also carry with them relatively low maintenance costs and holdup very well to heavy traffic.

Polished concrete is a very effective flooring choice to optimize radiant heat and cooling.

This recent project was new concrete poured by others.  A unique terrazzo strip was put into place.  Danamac did a deep grind polished finish to this project.  End result was a high gloss finish with a lot of even aggregate exposure.

A client recently came to us wanting to improve their garage.  They had done extensive renos to their home and the 35 year old concrete garage floor needed some updating and beautifying as well.  Danamac prepared the surface and installed a flake floor for the client.  I think all will agree that this floor is a big improvement.

As with many things, there are many different levels of polishing concrete.  From a “cream polish” to “salt and pepper” to “deep grind” with all levels of sheen for each type.

One of our most popular polishes is the cream polish.  This is a great finish because it simply enhances the beauty of the slab.  It results in a smooth, easy to clean, beautiful floor.

We were recently in Gas Town in Vancouver and decided to re-visit a project we completed about 4 years ago.  We have had more inquiries about Inform Interiors flooring than almost any other project with public access that we have done.

Polished concrete - Inform

The floor started as a structural slab that was poured and raked out (by others).  On top of that coloured concrete was poured (by others).   The floor was badly marked from the placement and was cracking due to the structural slab sucking the moisture out of the finished slab and lack of expansion joints (among various other factors).

The client was looking for a light coloured neutral floor that would showcase the furniture and brought Danamac in to consult on how to accomplish this.

Danamac came in and pre-filled all the cracks to minimize the enlargement of them.  We then gave to floor a light polish to even out and refine the floor.  The result is a one of a kind  floor that showcases the clients furniture beautifully. 4 years later …. it remains interesting , unique and gorgeous!

Inform Interiors - Light Polish

Danamac recently completed this beautiful polished concrete project in a brand new house.

Danamac was brought in at the early planning stages.  We were able to give some direction to our customer at this stage.  The customer wanted a unique floor, acid stained with deep polish.  Danamac was able to be present during the concrete pour to seed the floor with some glow in the dark aggregate.  Because we were involved in the early stages we were able to get in and put in strategically placed sawcuts to minimize the uncontrolled cracking.

This project started out with good flat hard concrete and a customer who was willing to think outside the box.  The result is a beautiful polished  concrete floor!
