Making Time for YOU in the Pre-Holiday Season!

  • As the holiday season fast approaches, do you find yourself juggling so many balls that you can’t find time for your workouts?
  • Are you feeling more stressed?
  • Are you worried about weight gain during the holidays?

With the onset of holiday parties, decorating, shopping, food preparation and travel planning comes additional stress  in our already busy everyday lives.  Unfortunately, our personal time  for exercise tends to be put on the back burner.

Give Yourself The Gift of Energy!

Wouldn’t it be great to have more energy?

Choosing to make yourself a priority during this hectic time and fitting in a couple of good quality workouts each week can reduce your stress levels, lift your spirits and leave you more energized for the events ahead.

If you’re already enrolled in a fitness class keep going so you can achieve the benefits you signed up for!

Otherwise, schedule a block of time at least twice per week leading up to and during the holidays to do something fun & active.

1. Walk to your town parade.

2.  Snowshoe if mother nature blesses you with some snow

3.  Downhill or cross country ski with your family

4.  Enjoy a brisk walk to admire the Christmas displays in your area.

5.  Work in two or three 10 minute calorie blasts each day.

6.  Put together in impromptu scavenger hunt in your neighbourhood with friends & family.

Benefits of (Pre) Holiday Workouts:

1.  Keep those holiday pounds in check.

2.  Ladies you’ll feel great in that slinky new dress you bought for New Year’s Eve.

3.  Feel calmer and more clear headed

4.  Feel energized and able to conquer the world.

I’d love to hear your ideas!

How do you plan on staying fit over the holiday season?

Big Numbers & High Energy = Ridiculously Fun Groove Class

Today I had the honour to facilitate a Groove class at the Just Say Yes Conference in Ottawa.

In the spirit of the event, participants were energized and ready to say YES to something new, to step out of their comfort zone and give it their all. And that they did! Men and women of all ages, pumped it, kicked it, popped and swayed, and threw their own creative twist into the movements. Their enjoyment was written in the smiles on their faces and the pink in their cheeks!

Way to go everyone!

If you’d like to step out of your own box and dance for the health of it, drop me a line!

Exercise Band Safety Tip

Those handy, very convenient elastic bands are a great compliment to your exercise regime.  Their portability  and light weight makes them easy to pack for business trips, vacations or even to tuck in your purse or backpack for an on-the-go workout indoors or out!

When working with bands, whether with handles or not, its important to be mindful of a few safety tips.

  1. Prior to use, always inspect your band for signs of wear, nicks or imperfections, or dryness due to exposure to sunlight. Replace your band if it shows any signs of wear or tear to avoid injury.
  2. Always make sure the band is securely fastened under your shoe (over the top of the arch, then cross underneath the arch and press down with the weight of your foot) or wrapped once around the hand.
  3. Be sure to resist the band in both directions of the exercise to avoid strain on muscles and joints, Slow and controlled in both directions.

Enjoy your workout.

Checking For Diastasis Recti

For my moms in Mom & Me Fit, we spoke briefly today about diastasis recti, a separation of the abdominal muscles that can occur during pregnancy.  If this condition occurs a more gentle approach to ab work is necessary.

If you’re not sure if this applies to you please watch  the video below for more information.  If you have any questions or suspect you may have diastasis recti please be sure to talk to your doctor.
