CSM Welcomes Lou Dawson for a Book Signing

Book Signing with Lou Dawson Saturday, May 25th 3pm- 5pm

In this riveting memoir, renowned mountaineer Lou Dawson shares a tumultuous coming-of-age journey, from the flatlands of Texas to the Colorado mountains, steeped in the counterculture revolution of the 1960s.

Amidst the towering peaks, Lou discovers an enduring love for alpine sports: scaling cliffs, topping summits, skiing powder snow. However, as the avalanches fall and lifestyle choices veer, his pursuit of adrenaline becomes a poignant struggle for meaning in a culture where nothing succeeds like excess.

About the Author

Louis "Lou" Dawson is among North America's best-known ski mountaineers. He has been inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame, and named by Powder Magazine in 2006 as one of “The Most Influential Skiers of the Past 35 Years.” He was a top North American rock and ice climber of the 1970s and went on to become the first person to ski down all fifty-four of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks.

Dawson has authored numerous magazine articles and award-winning books and is publisher emeritus of the world’s longest-running and best-known backcountry skiing website, WildSnow dot com. He lives in Colorado with his wife Lisa and a hepcat named Coco.

New Acquisition on Exhibit - Mikaela Shiffrin’s 2023 World Cup Globe

Pro skier, Chris Anthony places in a display case a new edition to the exhibit, a 2022-23 World Cup globe trophy donated by Mikaela Shiffrin after the ski racer broke it while filming a car commercial in Andorra in March 2023.

Jonathan Ingraham/Denver Gazette

"It is so awesome that Mikaela gifted the globe to the Snowsports museum," Mason said after the display case was closed up. "The back story of how it broke is so fun! As our hometown hero, it is so incredible that we have these precious artifacts of Mikaela's in the museum."

As with most of our artifacts, there’s quite a background story to this one!

New Jimmie Heuga Painting on Display

Allison Lefcort Painting of Jimmie Heuga on Loan

The Colorado Snowsports Museum is pleased to present a new work of art on display. This original artwork celebrates the achievements of Olympic bronze medalist Jimmie Heuga, with the source photograph captured in Grenoble, France in 1968. Jimmie was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 1987.

The artist behind this remarkable work is none other than Allison Lefcort, affectionately known as “the Princess of Pop” and widely acknowledged in the art world as the rightful heir to the Pop Art throne.

The creation of this commissioned portrait was graciously donated to The Jimmie Heuga Legacy Foundation for MS by Joanne Posner-Mayer, a dedicated friend and unwavering supporter of Jimmie Heuga. This piece is on loan to the CSM.

Colorado Snowsports Museum is Proud to Welcome a New Donation: An Atomic Ski Representing Mikaela Shiffrin’s Recent Record-Breaking History

After Mikaela Shiffrin’s “Mikaela87” event in Vail, Eileen Shiffrin, Mikaela’s mother, donated one of the Atomic skis presented to Mikaela at the event to the Colorado Snowsports Museum (CSM). At the event, snow sports athletes presented Mikaela with Atomic skis created for the event – symbolizing each record Mikaela broke in 2023. When each ski was passed on to Mikaela the record she broke was acknowledged. The ski that we received was given to Mikaela by Oksana Masters, representing the “Most Alpine Ski World Cup Wins by Any Skier in History (88).” Read more about this donation and Mikaela’s 87 event HERE.
