Design. Build. Test. Compete.

What We Do

Welcome to OK Motorsports. We are a dynamic university design team, comprised of talented students from diverse programs at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus. We design, test, and build an open-wheeled, formula-style race car and compete in the annual Formula SAE competition hosted by SAE International in Michigan.

Our project centers around a hypothetical scenario: a fictional manufacturing company entrusts our design team with the development of a race car prototype marketed towards the weekend autocross racer. Precise handling, rapid acceleration, and immediate braking are all critical elements of the car that are required to place first in these time-based, short-track, autocross races.

Each year, our team rises to this challenge. We meticulously craft our race car prototypes – both internal combustion (IC) and electric (EV), with our first EV in design for the 2025 competition. Our team evaluates the market potential and value of our prototypes as hypothetical production items through design analysis, manufacturability, and reliability testing before taking them for industry-level scrutiny by expert judges at the competitions.

However, OK Motorsports is more than just racing; we're a hub of collaboration beyond the classroom and an incubator for future industry leaders. We offer our members a unique opportunity to apply their course-based knowledge to a common goal: create well-designed race cars and gain invaluable experience simultaneously. Along the way, we facilitate the development of the best engineers and project leaders. Our journey is paved with data-driven decisions that push our club to new heights, both on and off the track.  We are not alone in this journey, we owe our success to the support of our sponsors, dedicated alumni, and our esteemed faculty. Join us in this exhilarating adventure, and let's accelerate towards excellence together.

MK. IV

OUR MOST RECENT PROTOTYPE

Mk. IV was an incredible achievement for our dynamic design team at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan Campus. Constructed during the 2022/2023 school year, Mk. IV marked a significant milestone for OK Motorsports. This ambitious machine set a new benchmark for our team, completing every competition event and securing an impressive 36th place overall out of 120 teams at the 2023 international FSAE competition in Michigan.

Mk. IV boasts several innovative features, including advanced braking components courtesy of our partnership with Brembo, a new roll-heave suspension setup with Multimatic dampers, and our team’s first-ever full carbon fiber aerodynamic package. The precise handling, immediate braking, and increased reliability and efficiency brought about by these components (and many more!) contributed to our competitive results in the 2023 FSAE competition.
