CIB Investment to Improve Flow of Canadian Exports Through Port of Prince Rupert

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has reached financial close on a $150 million loan to the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) for the first phase of a project to build CANXPORT. The new export logistics hub will expand capacity and capabilities for rail-to-container transloading of multiple export products at the Port of Prince Rupert, improve Canadian supply chains, and drive trade and economic growth.

The community, located on Porcher Island approximately 42km south of #PrinceRupert, upgraded the facility back in 2017 with support from the @rupertport Community Investment Fund. The improvements made the Community Hall fully accessible with a ramp and an entranceway platform.

Wolverine Terminals’ Prince Rupert Marine Fuels Terminal is anticipating the delivery of its two new barges on the morning of Thursday May 16th.

The rail and distribution barges will enable marine fueling service for large vessels, filling an important service gap at the Port of #PrinceRupert.

Work continues at the terminal to prepare for bunkering operations, which will commence in the coming months.

#TBT @rupertport is excited to once again co-host the 8th annual Adventures in the Port of Prince Rupert, alongside the @rotaryprincerupert and @cfprincerupert.

Secondary students representing nearly the entire Highway 16 gateway (from Prince Rupert to Vanderhoof, and also including Williams Lake) will be in town May 14 to 16 touring many of the port related properties and industries, as well as learning more about the PRPA and the opportunities that are available after graduation.

Last year, nine students participated. This year, that number has doubled to 21 (including chaperones)! A huge welcome to all participants!

#TBT Time to go outside! Pineridge Elementary School was one of the first schools in town to benefit from the @rupertport Community Investment Fund back in 2019, with new playground equipment which in turn made it more accessible.

This includes interactive play space featuring tactile and sensory equipment for those with mobility issues.

#TBT @northcoastecology is gearing up for the tourism season, and with it, the reopening of this edition of the North Coast Ecology Centre which will celebrate its second season.

In 2023, via a partnership with the @rupertport Community Investment Fund, this new centre was developed and opened in June. It is located inside a repurposed shipping container and features hands-on exhibits that highlight local terrestrial, marine and freshwater species, and their habitats.

The $4 million partnership with the city of Prince Rupert revitalized marine life and also restored the aquatic ecosystem in the area. The open space has quickly become popular with the entire community!

This Sunday, April 21, from noon to 3 p.m., the community is invited to join the PRPA and many other community partners at Seal Cove, to enjoy the various activities that will take place to commemorate Earth Day.
