Happy Holidays Folks!

Charlotte and William with hot chocolate

The holidays are here! A whole week for Eric and 2 weeks for me and the kids to relax, hang out and enjoy the season. We’ll be celebrating Chanukah, Christmas, Charlotte’s 11th birthday and New Year’s Eve, not to mention visits from family and time with friends. We are all looking forward to it!

Giving Thanks

We had visitors! My British cousin Katie (who is spending a term studying in NYC) and my Torontonian brother Dan both joined us for Thanksgiving last weekend. They saw a bit of the city, spent some time with us and ate some good food, including Katie’s first poutine and pumpkin pie (although not together!) What more could you ask, really?

The end of summer

This gallery contains 7 photos.

It’s been a summer of travels and lost teeth, scraped knees and sunshine, explorations and accomplishments. Eric finished his PhD (Halleluyah!) and I started a new job. Despite the chillier-than-normal temperatures, we made the most of summer 2014.  Here are some of our photos from August. This year, Charlotte’s in Grade 6 and the boys […]

We’ve got mail!

This afternoon, we received a letter from Charlotte, who’s been away at Camp Kanawana since last Monday. She is never far from my thoughts and it was delightful to hear from her. The highly enthusiastic letter describes new friends, various outdoor activities and her signature illustrations of each of her main points. I miss her and look forward to picking her up on Friday, but I’m so happy to know that she’s having such a good time. The proof’s in the punctuation; every single sentence in Charlotte’s letter ends with at least one exuberant exclamation mark!

France 2014

We just got back from our long-anticipated trip to France! We spent a weekend exploring a rainy Paris with some terribly jet-lagged twins, then headed up to the family cottage in Normandy for two weeks. Cottage life revolved around the beach, backyard soccer and wonderful French food. Our time at the cottage was interspersed with day trips around the area and one overnight to Tours in the Loire Valley, where we visited the chateaux at Chenonceaux and Blois. Cousin Katie biked down to stay with us at the cottage for a few days, and Grandma and Poppa also arrived near the end of our visit, so we spent some family time all together.

After two weeks in France, we drove up to Belgium to see Ypres and Bruges, then went on to stay with my cousin Susana and her husband Martin in Soest, Holland. We spent two days wandering the streets and the canals of Amsterdam and enjoying Susana and Martin’s tremendous hospitality.

It was a fabulous trip and we all had a great time, and my only regret is that I wish I’d taken more photos!
