Downtown
Brampton situated at Queen and Main Streets, boasts a number of heritage
properties that date circa 1830. There are many magnificent Edwardian
and Victorian homes.
The
Bramalea subdivision located at Bramalea Road and Queen Street East
developed in the early 1960's was Canada's first "bedroom"
community.
The
history of Brampton dates back to the early 1800's when it was a rural
outpost known as Buffy's Corners. This name was derived from a popular
tavern located at Queen Street at Main. This is now the location of
Brampton's City Hall.
The
city of Brampton was incorporated in 1974 when the former Town of
Brampton, Town of Toronto Gore and Chinguacousy Township were amalgamated.
Sharing
a part of its southeast border with the Lester B. Pearson International
Airport and the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke, Brampton is also part
of The Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
