Ottawa, ON – April 16, 2024 – The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) applauds the robust initiatives to address some of Canada’s most pressing social issues in Budget 2024: Fairness for every generation, including investments in housing, youth mental health, and a school food programme. But one commitment particularly stands out: the inclusion of social workers in the Canada Student Loan forgiveness programme for rural and remote workers.

April 1, 2024 - As National Social Work Month concludes, let us remember that our work is far from over. We must continue to mobilize and lead change to address gender inequality, support the treaty rights of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, eliminate racial discrimination, advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, and more. Let us continue to harness the power of our shared values to imagine endless possibilities for social work – possibilities that transcend barriers, bridge divides, and create inclusive communities where every voice is heard and every person is valued.
