    Activities and Societies: Student representative on the Science and Technology Research Degrees Board and the Research Degrees Committee. Chair of the Research Student Committee.

    Currently researching the landscape scale habitat requirements of insect pollinators in the Nene Valley Nature Improvement Area(NIA). The aim of this project is to produce and test a GIS model predicting habitat potential, in terms of diversity and abundance, of insect pollinators. The project requires skills in many areas including: GIS, statistics, field ecology, taxonomy and literature research.

  • Distinction

    Course developed fieldwork skills and an understanding of practical and theoretical ecology particularly in the setting of conservation. Topics covered include, taxonomy, environmental legislation, ecosystem degradation and GIS. Dissertation undertaken in association with Buglife, on ‘The Habitat Requirements of Oil Beetles in the UK’ seeking to understand if females show preferences in microhabitat for oviposition.

  • Upper Second Class with Honours

    Course included detailed study on aspects of ecology, conservation theory and practice, environmental change and field work, including Phase 1 & 2 surveying. Led to the development of several transferable skills including; I.T., statistical, research and practical skills.

    Attended weekly trips providing experience of practical conservation skills, habitat management and an understanding of environmental decision making. I have a good understanding of health and safety and tool maintenance.

    Children

    • Previously an assistant leader, at a busy and active brownie pack and involved in running meetings, activities, trips and attending formal occasions.
    • Member of the scouting organisation for 7 years. Previously a long term helper at a local scout group planning and organising activities such as night hikes, wide games and craft nights. Involved as both a leader and staff on an international camp, Peak 2010.

  • Habitat requirements of British Meloe: oviposition preferences of Meloe violaceus

    -

    MSc thesis on the ovipoisition preferences of the violet oil beetle. This project was undertaken in collaboration with the Oxford University Museum of Natural History & Buglife.
