The Shamrock is a beautiful facility with bowling, curling, hockey, and a fitness center. We had a chance to chat with our appreciative audience at intermission and after the concert. A number had seen us before and came back to see us again. That is always a good sign. February 4, 2011 - Scottish Pavilion, Lieutenant Governor's Festival in Brandon Band Comments: Bigger crowds this year. Thanks to all the dancers, especially the highland dancers for getting into the spirit. Enjoyed jamming with a few other musicians after the venue was closed. January 29, 2011 - Glesby Center in Portage la Prairie Band Comments: Wow, the Glesby center is an amazing facility. Gerry and his group of volunteers operate a venue with 450 seats for their Mainstage concerts and at least 350 were filled on a brutally cold night, the day after roads were closed. Thanks to Larry, our sound was fantastic. The audience played their part perfectly, clapping and singing along. Backstage, we were treated like bratty divas and were spoiled by their hospitality. We would come back any time. We did get some video and hope to upload to YouTube soon. Linda Sigurdson took a few pictures. Check them out here. January 16, 2011 - Deloraine Band Comments: Great theatre to perform at in Deloraine. Seats around 220 and it was close to sold out. The audience got into it and clapped and sang with us. We went for supper after the show and met quite a few audience members there. What a fantastic time. December 10, Austin - R.M. of North Northfolk Christmas Celebration Band Comments: Had a chance to play in their fairly new hall. They had a large stage for us and fed us a wonderful turkey dinner. Thanks for having us out. November 8 - Farm Women's Conference - Portage la Prairie Band Comments: This is the second time we have had the opportunity to play for the Farm Women's Conference. Thanks for having us back. August 21 - Moosehorn - Inland Oceans Arts Alliance Band Comments: This small town has a huge hall with a large stage. For a small crowd, they were very appreciative. Their applause sounded like thunder. One young girl in the front row couldn't sit still. Her toes were tapping and her hands were clapping for every song. The hotel in Moosehorn has a great little bistro. We also toured out to Steep Rock, just north of Moosehorn. If you are even in the area on a summer day, you have got to check out the beauty of Steep Rock. August 20 - Oak Point - Inland Oceans Arts Alliance Band Comments: What a great outdoor venue this tiny village has! We played on a large covered stage and in front of us was a wooden dance floor... and they had beer. Thanks for having us out Audrey. July 17 - Homewood, MB - Private Function (Wedding) July 1 - Canada Day in Virden Band Comments: A beautiful day at Victoria Park. Sunny, no mosquitoes, and a large, friendly audience. They have a great outdoor stage. Sound by Sheldon was fantastic. This was Virden's first big musical celebration of Canada Day. Thanks for letting us be a part of it. June 19 - Little Valley Jamboree - Erickson, Mb June 12 - Lundar Fair 8:00 pm May 15 - Winkler - P. W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall Band Comments: The P.W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall is a treat to play in. Thanks to Jim Nickel, we sounded as good as we can sound. If any musicians get a chance to play here, take it. Thanks to Eunice Sudernam and Jerri-Ann Froese for having us out. May 1 - Arden Crocus Festival March 20 - Hartney Lobster Fest Band Comments: Things really got rolling after supper. The dancers took to the floor and we even tried to play a request, The Unicorn. We'll have to learn it for next year. Great lobster, fantastic event Hartney. March 14 - Argyle Coffee House Band Comments: Wow, a packed house in this tiny little town. Heard some other fantastic performers as well. March 12 - Carberry Legion - Carberry Plains Arts Council February 5 - Leiutenant Govenor's Festival, Scottish Pavillion - Brandon January 23 - Flin Flon Band Comments: We started our trip with almost no snow on the ground. We have had very little moisture this year and it hadn't snowed in almost a month. By the time we hit Swan River we had a genuine prairie blizzard. We made it to Flin Flon and were greeted by Crystal (Flin Flon Arts Council) and the sound technician Dave Gunn. What a beautiful facility they have at the R.H. Channing Auditorium. Huge stage, cushioned raised seating, and an area for snacks and drinks behind the seating. We had a good sized crowd who were eager to get involved in singing and clapping along. We even brought up George Fontaine to play the ugly stick. The two hours flew by. Thanks Crystal, Linda, and all FFAC members for making us feel so welcome and thanks Dave for the awesome sound. "Swamp Gas was a toe-tapping, finger-snapping success in Flin Flon this past Saturday. It was enjoyed by everyone from age 8 - 80 and the Flin Flon Arts Council was treated to words of appreciation from audience members. Thank you Swamp Gas for warming us up on that blustery January evening!" - Crystal Kolt, Flin Flon Arts Council January 10 - Private Function, Neepawa January 9, 2010 - Brandon - Agricultural Society October 17 - Manitoba Showcase Contact in Neepawa Band Comments: What a great thrill playing in our hometown to an appreciative audience. The Roxy theatre is a great venue. Doug and the guys from Look Music made everyone sound incredible. Thanks to all of you who came and talked to us in the Contact Room. Thanks for the support of the Manitoba Arts Council who is looking to set up a tour for us next winter. Partly cloudy with no mosquitoes. July 19 - Lily Festival in Neepawa April 11 - Arden March 17, 2008 - Clancy's Eatery and Drinkery 1133 Princess Avenue, Brandon Phone726-1236. First set 9:00 pm, Second set 10:00 pm Band Comments: Corey & Benita Roberts from Clancy's put on a good party. The place was packed with Irish and "Honorary Irish" citizens. Thanks to Dean doing our sound. We mixed it up with traditional Irish, Scottish, and East Coast tunes, and even threw in "a wee bit of the Bluegrass". Feb. 1 - Scottish Pavilion at Lieutenant Govenor's Winter Festival 2008 in Brandon. Band Comments: Great venue and an enthusiastic audience for the first set. We shared the stage with Katherine Penfold and friends. By the time we started our second set it was very late and the audience size dwindled quite a bit. I guess we need to attract a younger crowd! Nov. 16 - Neepawa Catholic Church November 2 - Manitoba Farm Women's Conference - Portage La Prairie Band Comments: Following the most politically correct meal I have seen (chicken, beef, and pork) we played to a group that wanted to dance. This surprised us as we planned quite a few thoughtful songs lamenting the farm of yesteryear. We had a lot of fun with this energetic audience and will be better prepared if they ever ask us back. "I wish I'd never taken this excursion around the bay, HEY!" October 16 - Carberry Legion Band Comments: What a blast. We played for the Baron farm operation to celebrate the end of potato harvest. A great meal of steak and of course potatoes. We played two sets while our hosts visited, celebrated and clapped along. October 6 - Roland Pumpkin Fair Band Comments: We drove through torrential downpours, hail, and fog to get to Roland. We were pretty happy to see the giant pumpkin welcoming visitors at the edge of town. Roland puts on a great fair. There was a rock and roll band playing in the beer tent, kids rides, a tractor pull, crafts, pumpkins weighing 600-700 pounds, and more. We had a chance to hear Roland residents, Tom and Lori (aka Lulu and the Tomcat) before we took over the stage. They had a great setup inside the arena to keep everyone warm and dry. Thanks to Shelley Bartley and the rest of the volunteers for inviting us to this terrific event. Oct. 28 - Belmont Hotel, Belmont Manitoba - Fundraising Dinner Band Comments: A fundraiser for the local recreation center and museum. We took a tour of the town to see these and other facilities. Quite a beautiful town especially the view down main street from the top of the hill. July 22 - Lily Festival Band Comments: Holy cow, was it hot. The sweat was dripping off us during sound check and it got warmer as we played. Great set up under the tent and hats off to Emil and Fred doing our sound. July 7 - Stonewall Band Comments: Beautiful town!. We played to a large appreciative audience and had a great meal. June 14 - Music in the Park in Brandon - Eleanor Kidd Park. Band Comments: Cloudy the whole time...we were just waiting for the rain to fall but it never did. The breeze kept the mosquitoes to a minimum. About 80-100 on hand. Most brought lawn chairs and parked right in front of us. Some audience members sang along to almost every song. Are we getting groupies? June 9 - Round and Square Dance at Yellowhead in Neepawa. Band Comments: Dancers really appreciate lively music. They clapped and tapped along to every song, and were good sports when it came time to singing along to help us fill out the chorus on some songs. Some even got up to dance. April 26 - Rural Forum at the Keystone in Brandon. 2:00 pm Band Comments: Two o'clock was not an ideal time to play. Participants were largely in sessions at that hour, but we had a good time playing to the food vendors who seemed to appreciate the high energy at an otherwise slow time. March 16 - St. Patrick's Day celebration at the Legion in Neepawa. Band Comments: Played 2 sets and got louder and more lively with every song. Good audience participation especially on "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Barrett's Privateers". Feb. 2 - Scottish Pavilion at Lieutenant Govenor's Winter Festival 2007 in Brandon. Band Comments: Played to a fun loving crowd. Had a chance to share the stage with Katherine Penfold. The Scots sure know how to party. We were the last pavillion open. Nov. 3 - Carberry Legion, Carberry, Manitoba Band Comments: A full house. Lots of fun with good audience participation. Sept. 15 - Terry Fox Fundraising Concert Band Comments: A great evening. Thanks to all who came out in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. After completing 26 miles yesterday in support of cancer research, John Nelson and his wife Gerry organized this fund raising event. July 28 - Brandon Folk Festival Band Comments: After a hot couple of weeks, it thankfully cooled off for Friday night. That along with the complete absence of mosquitoes made for a great night to sit under the stars and listen to roots music. Click here to see some Brandon Folk Festival pictures. July 21, 22, 2006 - Neepawa Lily Festival Band Comments: We played at the Lily Lounge for an hour on Friday. Very responsive audience. They sang along, clapped their hands, stomped their feet, and had a great time. We played Saturday again at the fiddle contest. Thanks for your support Neepawa. July 1 - Canada Day celebrations at Neepawa Riverbend Park 2006 Band Comments: A beautiful day. It looked like it may rain early on, but the sun shone for us and the other performers. The town had an amazing display of fireworks in the park. Thanks to the Lions for having us out. June 24 - Winnipeg Beach 2006 Band Comments: What a perfect venue on the beach. It had the effect of a folk festival with the audience in front of us on lawn chairs and the sun setting behind us. Interesting history of the town on the boardwalk. |
