Haahuupayak School is a First Nations independent school located on Tseshaht First Nation Reserve in the beautiful Alberni Valley.  We invite applications from individuals with strong effective leadership skills to support a positive and healthy learning environment for our school.

Founded in 1976, the school operates under the direction of Haahuupayak Society’s Board of Directors.  Tseshaht First Nation is one of 14 tribes in the Nuuchahnulth Territories. The school community is nestled adjacent to the city of Port Alberni, which has a population of approximately 18,000.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice Principal is responsible for the supporting the development and management of school administrative and education policies, curriculum development and delivery, supervision, evaluation and development of school employees and the management of the school building and facilities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

•           Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Haahuupayak Personnel and Haahuupayak Operational School policies, standards, governing regulations and procedures

•           Collaborates with parents, staff and the community to enhance student achievement and competence;

•           Applies awareness and sensitivity to current educational practices and the changing nature of instruction;

•           Encourages development of knowledge and application of current education research regarding the teaching and learning of literacy and numeracy;

•           Fosters a team environment as a team-builder and team-player;

•           Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of best practices supporting student engagement, learning, curriculum and assessment strategies and practices;

•           Commits to school/community involvement;

Duties

Under the general direction of the IWT management team, the Job Developer/Customized Employment Specialist will:

• Utilize WorkBC’s Customized Employment Service components: Discovery; Employment Profile; Customized Employment Services Parts I & II.
• Explore and initiate relationships in the employer community, in order to create and secure employer-based work experience, community attachment, volunteer placement, and/or job shadowing activities.
• Identify opportunities based on clients’ needs, by initiating or creating new jobs, carving existing jobs through negotiating to re-arrange work tasks, or creating self-employment opportunities specifically customized to each client's unique needs, skills, abilities and competencies.
• Monitor and document clients’ progress in their work situations, providing needed support for on-the-job problem solving.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of information on the labour market and job opportunities, and share regularly with partners.
• Build collaborative relationships with employers and service providers, and develop a strong network through involvement in community events and groups.
• Travel throughout the service area as required to meet with employers and clients.
