What Not To Wear At Work on Casual Friday

18 05 2012

Image

Corporate casual encompasses a large grey area of what is acceptable (as long as you’re well put together i.e. outfits match and don’t reek anything goes p.s. people can tell the difference between fresh laundry and Febreeze) but there’s definitely delineation at the far end of the spectrum.

For the sake of your career, consider banishing these office fashion faux pas from your wardrobe.
1. Sneakers. Of all the items not to wear to work, athletic footwear ranks highest in its ability to put a sweat sock in your career.
2. Flip-flops. Another shoe-in for demotion is the flip-flop. Perhaps it’s the incessant clippity clop of sole smacking heel. Or maybe it’s the shameless baring of feet. Flip-flops aren’t actual sandals.
3. Wrinkled shirts are a top-three offender. An iron can turn a pauper into a prince. Gift yourself a good quality steam iron, it’s faster and easier to use than a traditional iron.

4.   The same thing you wore the day before. You’re telling your colleagues you didn’t sleep at home last night. Maybe you got lucky, maybe you didn’t. Either way, it’s evident that you didn’t wash your clothes. No one will want to get close enough to confirm that assumption olfactory. Change it up a bit. Save Tuesday’s sweater for Friday and help keep the mystery alive.

5.   Tracksuits. Your going to work, not to the gym.

6.   Clothing you slept in. One can see this might be a temptation for new gradsadjusting to life that starts at 8AM. You’re not fooling anybody. And we know you didn’t shower. Find another way to save time in the morning.

7.   T-shirts with decals that make political statements, religious references or crude jokes. You’re not in high school any longer and you’re sure to offend somebody.

9.   Heavy cologne or aftershave. Best to avoid the cheap stuff, Pepé. What it lacks in price, it makes up for in punch.

10. Baseball caps. Unless the ceiling in your office is made of glass and the sun shines perpetually in your eyes, save the cap for the bus ride home.

To Resist or Not To Resist

4 05 2012

There seems to be a whole misconception about stain resistant fabric. The reason for this is because there are essentially 2 ways to make a fabric stain resistant.

The first method and the reason behind the paranoia about stain resistant fabric and health risk factors is a process where the fabric is sprayed with a stain resistant coating, often referred to as a “Teflon” coating. Much like the way upholstery is sprayed after you purchase it from a furniture store.

The second method of making a fabric stain resistant and incidentally the method used by all S.Cohen stain resistant fabrics, is done during the manufacturing of the fabric using an advanced chemical process. The stain resistant chemicals forms an invisible molecular shield around the fibers of the fabric in a process called nano-technology. With this method, there is no health risk and an additional benefit is that the stain resistant properties of the cloth does not diminish with time or cleaning.

As an aside, no method of stain resistance used in clothing poses a known health risk. The stories in the media mostly related to individuals working at the factories that manufactured the chemicals used in the process. Some of these individuals, due to long term exposure to the chemicals during manufacturing, and in mass quantities and in different formats, did have issues. No one has ever had an issue with a finished product of clothing protected with these treatments.

So, if someone tries to tell you that their cloth is stain resistant, ask them how it was done.

A Heart Warming Story From Infinity Images

27 04 2012

Recently, we received an order from our customer with the above photo of a cute toddler. As it turns out, this is a photo of a girl on her 1st day of school, now a woman who has just graduated from university 18 years later. Our customer, being best friend’s with the graduating student’s father, thought it would be a great idea to make up a suit for the father for the occasion of her graduation with this photo underneath the breast pocket on the inside lining of the jacket.

Our customer reported back to us that the father was moved to tears when he saw the picture of his cute 4 year daughter on the inside of his suit.

Another happy customer of S.Cohen Infinity Custom. Truly a heart warming story.
