Causes of Foot and Back Pain
There are many different type of foot ailments that affect your posture and result in pain located in your feet, knees and throughout your back. The cause can be genetic predisposition, but more likely uncomfortable and constricting
foot wear is at fault.
Hammertoe:
This condition is described as a bending of one or both joints of the second, third, fourth or fifth toes. The abnormal bending of the toes causes discomfort while wearing shoes and the deformities will get worse over time without proper treatment. If left untreated hammertoes will require surgical treatment, however if diagnosed early on they can be healed with non surgical means.
Bunion:
This condition is known to affect women nearly 10 times more often than men and is strongly believed to be caused by wearing tight, ill fitting shoes specifically high heeled and narrow toed as the put more pressure on the front of the foot. A bunion is an additional bone formation around the joint at the base of the big toe, however it can also occur in the small toe (fifth toe) at which point it's referred to as the Tailor's bunion. Bunions when untreated will lead to chronic pain however proper
orthotics and well fitted shoes will alleviate the pain associated with this condition.
Fallen Arches:
Fallen Arches commonly referred to as flat feet, this is a state that is usually inherited but can also develop later in life. A person diagnosed with pes planus as referred to by the official medical name, will usually suffer from tired and aching feet due to their body weight not being distributed properly due to the lack of the proper arch. Orthotic inserts into shoes will imitate the arch and provide better weight distribution, only in very rare and extreme cases will surgery be necessary.
